I mean, emotionally. I just had this happen to me (again) and it completely rattles me. I generally threaten legal action and it scares the person, but it just boils my blood when people have the gall to do that sort of thing.
I had a girl email me once saying she was a big fan of my work and wanted to shoot with me. Her avatar was of a blonde girl shot from behind standing in the ocean. She forgot she stole it from my website. I asked her where the pic was taken and she said “my friend shot it in the Hamptons” this summer. I knew that wasn’t true because I shot it in Malibu.
How do you deal with it? You handled it perfectly. As a younger photographer I would be rattled. As a more experienced photographer I might just laugh and keep working or if it were an advertisement I might be on the phone to my attorney. Depends on the usage.
